Its too Hard????!!!!

Many residents across the borough have asked me to challenge for a door to door cardboard recycling scheme. In particular a large number of residents form the larger residential estates in Chadwell. I have spoken to the General cleansing team who have responded toady and provide a glimmer of hope.....:

"Ideally we would have cardboard recycling facilities in large estates (as well as for all residents in the borough). The problem we have with this at present is that we do not have the necessary vehicles to collect cardboard. There would also be the problem of finding a processor who will accept the cardboard. As you may know, we are unable to send cardboard to the plant where we send our paper because the quality is not good enough. We are considering setting up a trial cardboard collection, using one vehicle on one day a week when it becomes available. It is certainly possible that we will consider collecting from blocks of flats and we will bear Birch Court in mind if this does come to fruition."

In the meanwhile I have news that Redbridge has already invested in 4 new Cardboard Recycling banks across the borough. All types of card are accepted at the new sites including cereal boxes, egg boxes, cardboard tubes and food packaging boxes. The recycling banks are situated at the following locations:

Sainsburys, Chase Lane, Newbury Park
Tesco, High Road, Goodmayes
Fullwell Cross Car Park, Fullwell Cross, Barkingside
Tesco, Woodford Avenue, (Near Charlie Browns Roundabout)

Obviously the ones highlighted are closest to residents of Chadwell....however from the picture you can see there are more innovative ways to recycle cardboard!

  1. Readers should note that all 4 sites mentioned have limited capacity and are frequently full up. Placing your cardboard OUTSIDE and adjacent to the receptacle is considered fly-tipping and these sites are monitored by CCTV. If caught you will be fined.

There are also the Recycling and Reclamation centres at Chigwell Road and Jenkins Lane.

  2. Thanks Weggis....I will ask the General Cleansing Team if they can increase the collection visits and number of banks at these locations.
