East Thames Grove Farm Development

Here is a picture taken of me querying the building works being undertaken at the Grove farm site - prior to the Planning Regulatory Meeting South decision that resulted in a deferment of the existing application, whilst councillors await a more sensible design. To date nothing has been submitted to the Planning Team, however i will keep looking out for any reports and will advise residents accordingly - as always!

The things I do for you guys ay...putting my life at risk!

Seven Kings Crucible Park NHW

After the very successful meeting with residents of Priestley Gardens, Christie Gardens, Quarles Park Road, Manin Road, Arandora Road and other associated roads around Crucible Park - it was requested that I assist with the formation of a local Neighbourhood Watch Association.

With this in mind I have now set a date for the 25th June 2009 to be held at 19;00 at Somerville Hall, Somerville Road (opposite First Avenue). I already have a confirmed attendance from the Redbridge ASBO Team and have invited the Local Police and General Cleansing Team.

Please do come and join us if you are a resident in the vicinity of the park living in Seven Kings. Together we can make our parks a pleasant place to visit once again.

Chadwell Heath Allotments Saga

I have been working behind the scenes, to resolve the matter about insecure fencing on a property along Park Lane. This breachable fence is allowing vandals access to the adjacent allotments land in chadwell. It transpires after Mick Perring a local Crime Prevention Officer undertook his report, that there is a Borough Allotments Manger and that he has been trying to find a solution for a period of time -including offering to make secure the residents property. Here is a response received from the Borough Allotments Manager:

"Thank you for your enquiry. I am aware of and have investigated break-ins and arson of property at the above site reported to and also investigated, as criminal offences, by the police. The site's perimeter is bounded by a thick hedge interrupted by a 1.8M metal gate at the front, a tall palisade fence at the rear, and private property walls and fences at the sides. Plot holders at the site suspect that the criminals gained access by climbing over the gate (which seems unlikely, as it is overlooked by residential properties on Chadwell Heath Lane) and through a looseness between panels in a section of perimeter fence owned by No. ** Park Lane, whose occupier has been uncooperative with the Council's earlier request for permission to repair the fence. We are persevering with seeking this permission as well as considering an alternative solution to the problem. Also, it is proposed to improve the thickness of the above hedge by more planting where it appears thin"

I will of course keep you updated with information and will be approaching the resident personally to see if I can find a solution.

Chadwell Heath Station Upgrade

In the picture you will see Syed Siyani of One railway with Councillor Balvinder Saund and I, in a meeting I arranged to tackle the previously dilapidated state of Chadwell Heath Station. More details can be viewed on the former Labour Chadwell Blog. Further to the recent increased maintenance of the station that I was particularly focused on implementing - I have further good news! The station will soon have a major redevelopment including an increase to 12 platforms as part of the Crossrail project. This will include CCTV and washrooms plus much more. I will give more details in my next post on the subject after I speak to TFL.

Not in my back yard!

Complaints have been received from residents of Shepherds Close regarding the fact that litter has been collected from a rear alley way to properties on the longest stretch of this road, for over 10 years - yet the General Cleansing Team refuse to send a street cleaning vehicle to this private road. Much of the litter in this alleyway is a product of the waste collection service and it seems odd not to compliment the service with the usual clean up programme? I have asked the General Cleansing Team to look into this matter.

In addition to this concern the residents at no.42 Shepherds Close has left a lot of bulky waste at the rear of his property. This is acting as a magnet for additional littering. The Streetscene Team have been advised of this concern also.

A Hard Days Work!

Many residents will have visited our Green Party Stall at Redbridge Green fair Yesterday. I enjoyed meeting with those of you I could however, I could not be present at the stall as long as I wanted. I started my day by riding the mobility scooters from the Exchange Shopping mall , Ilford town centre - to valentines Park. Fortunately, I was joined by my Green compatriot Isla Martin and we raced along the streets and road at 8mph. It was particularly fun when I accidentally (of course) missed the drop down kerbs at corners and went flying onto the road. I was then coerced by the Green Fair organisers into assisting with the movement of vehicles and pedestrians at the entrance way to the fair. Then my Redbridge Carnival Committee associates failed to arrive, leaving me to approach the 140 stalls at the event to invite them to attain a stall at our prospective event on the 5th - 6th September 2009. Lots of talking and walking left me thoroughly exhausted and yet even so, when I joined the Green Party team consisting of Ashley Gunstock, Mark Dawes and Stephen Lambert in the collaborative effort of deconstructing our stall - all I could feel was disappointment. Fortunately my youngest daughter Naomi decided to help and add some glimmer to the process (the elder sister Hannah was enjoying getting her face painted) Please do share any stories from the fair and email me pictures to put on the blog.

Redbridge Peace Monument

Many residents may not be aware of this, however, since
last year I have been working on a project to raise funds for a Peace monument near Ilford Town centre. The monument (if we are successful) will be installed at the Winston Way Roundabout at the location where teenager Kashif Mahmood was killed by another teenager in a violent act that shocked the nation. We hope the monument will provide solace to the Family of Kashif Mahmood and other victims of violent crime within Redbridge. It will also provide Redbridge South an area deficinet of any public art with a truly remarkable art feature. We also intend to organise an art competition that will result in message and art work of peace being mosaically inserted into the floor aroun the base of the art feature. In the picture I am joined by Parvin Mahmood (mother of Kashif Mahmood and Mary Foley the mother of Charlotte Polious another teenager tragically stabbed to death by another teenager near Ilford Lane. We have thus far raised close to £3000, however the toatal cost of the project is in the region of £10,000. I will keep you up to date with progress, however if you would like to learn more or would like to donate click here.

Whodunnit!

Isla Martin our new Green Activist is pictured next to some rubbish dumped on the streets. This was found by her, this afternoon, whilst walking along Shepherds Close near the junction of Havering Gardens. Rubbish needs to be put out in Shepherds Close on Fridays and this particular example of dumping is rather disturbing, as it is not in front of any home. The mess has been reported to the Environmental team, however, if you do see any persons undertaking such activity please remember identity details - as enforcement action can be taken.

Band Aid 2

I posted alarming concerns about the increase of Postman strewn rubber bands in Chadwell/Chadwell Heath in a post back in March. Since then the problem seems to have increased. Today whilst delivering letters along Glendale Avenue (off Grove Road) a resident asked me if I could work on resolving the issue. I informed him that I have approached Royal Mail and they are yet to respond....however, in April the General Cleansing Team had promised to write to them and copy me into he response. I took a picture of the fore of 12 Glendale Avenue and you can see the vast number of the bands littered on the streets. This road is particularly covered in the offending items and I will challenge the General Cleansing to visit the location with me on Tuesday, so that we can all agree on an action plan going forward.

Arson spree

I reported a number of fires to bin areas, within residential estates near Chadwell Heath Foundation School and forgot to mention the applaing burning down of a resident fence, which also engulfed a garden tree. This resident lives in quarles Park Road estate, which backs on to Crucible Park. I was so incensed with the victims story that I asked him to inform the local papers which resulted in an article and a promise for increased patrols from the police in the area. I would add that if any local resident has a description of any miscreant from the school that might be responsible for any crime in your area the school does maintain a rogues gallery picture selection that could help to determine culprits. You will need to get in touch with the school to view the pictures.

Shepherds Close NHW

Thank you to all the residents who arrived at the Shepherds Close NHW held last night (Isla was pleased as the group seems to be growing). One visitor advised me of a covered vehicle without wheels and very old and rusty that was encroaching on the un-adopted road - I will look into this matter for you. I am also to advise people about how to use the new free weekly garden waste Collection, and I will write to you all. I have also been informed of a property with a boiler ventilation shaft, particularly close to a neighbours window and will ask for an investigation into this matter. The date for the next meeting is the 13th August 2009 at the same location, Somerville Hall, Somerville Road (opposite First Avenue).

True Hero!

Philip Walby of the Antisocial behaviour Team has been working hard resolving some of our Chadwell Issues. Since his work Mick Perring a Met Police Crime Prevention Officer has called two Allotment Holders and has already pencilled in a date to undertake a crime report, which could lead to potential funding for a remedy. Once I receive the report I will challenge the Borough Community safety Team to contribute towards the cost of the scheme and perhaps the Area 5 Committee also.

I have also been advised that the Police and L&Q are already well into the process of obtaining an antisocial behavior contract for the two difficult properties on Bengeo Gardens.

Norbury Remedy

I reported (on the 19th May) a loose kerb stone that was providing a significant trip and fall, safety threat to the fore of 23-25 Norbury Road. I am aware that other residents have also reported this item. I have pursued the Highhways team for a repair and the work was completed this morning (which is rather speedy) and will no doubt bring solace to local residents.

Rogue Management Group

Residents of Richmond Estate I humbly request that you all contact RMG by Post, fax, email and telephone on Friday 29th May. I would appreciate if you would list all your complaints for the estate and copy me into your communication. This will be a first step in a protest against the purported diabolical nature of their service that has reduced the quality of life for residents to the lowest in a long time and also bodes question about the health and safety and environmental threat to residents of the estate.

When you communicate with them, please ask them to contact me as your authorised person as this will ensure they communicate with me.

After the initial visit to your site with Michael Simms of RMG they have been ignoring my communications. If we work together, I promise we will improve the area! Just ask residents of the Millhaven/Capstan/Crucible Estate and Grove 1 estate of our recent successes.

I have some good news in a weeks time your landscaping at the green on Norwich Crescent will be completed by George Wimpey - you may have noticed the wonky lamp post at this very location, has been firmly secured.

Mr Shelton of Wimpey homes has stated in an email sent on the 9th of May:

"Good Morning Wilson. Work will start in a bout 2 weeks."

They have kept every promise so far unlike the promises I have received from Management Agents RMG!

Grave Road Resolution - forgive the morbid pun!

Residents of Chadwell Heath Lane and Grove Road will no doubt be pleased to hear that my petition (submitted at an Area 5 Meeting in March) and request for a junctions safety scheme for Grove Road's entrance into Chadwell Heath Lane read at last Mondays Area 5 - resulted in the discovery that Section 106 funding could have been allocated for this project from the recent Wimpey Homes "Richmond Estate" development located on Grove Road (just before the junction). Effectively this means if your incumbent Councillors been more diligent and determined, the works could have been completed years ago!

I have spoken to the Highways Team and they have agreed to pencil in a potential report for the area for the last quarter of this financial year (January-April). Unfortunatley, due to a burgeoning workload and potential reductions in staff no earlier date could be provided. Any works are dependant on a decision from the councillors on Area 5 Committee, with respect to, whether, allocated funds are allocated to this particular safety issue or to other highways maintenance for the location. A lead officer from Highways said:

"Further to our telephone conversation of this morning I can confirm that section 106 money is available for transport or highway improvements however, the agreement does not specify that it should be spent on safety measures. Also, there is Section 278 works to be carried out at the junction to improve sightlines and safety.

I cannot at this stage tell you when my team will be able to look at the junction as they are fully employed developing this and next years safety schemes and I would suggest that it is unlikely to be looked at until the last quarter of this financial year."

I will be asking our existing Chadwell councillors and the other incumbent Area 5 Councilors to confirm use of these funds for a safety scheme relevant to the junction i.e our roundabout request - at the next Area Committee 5 - Why not join me? Contact me if you would like further details!!!

I am disappointed as the issue was not reported to me earlier, had it been done so, I am sure many accidents at this junction could have been avoided. I am glad that whilst distributing my newsletters about the repairs I encouraged the highways team to complete to bollards and a kerb damaged during an accident there, that a local resident thought to approach me in order to attain a resolution for the safety of drivers exiting Grove Road.

I hope you are now all pleased with the result....? Please advise

Tree that's the magic number!

Yes, I know this is the third story about trees today, however, a tree has finally been removed from the fore of a drive at 62 Havering Road. Bizarrely the Highways Team had decided to plant the tree right in the middle of a forecourt drive and it stayed there for several years. Eventually, the first tree died and a stump reminaed for a year which I persuaded the Trees section to remove, asking them to ensure no new tree was planted there. Lo and behold a new tree appeared during this planting season. I have finally managed to request the removal of this tree which has now been planted in Shepherds Close. Furthermore the Highways Team will dig a new hole in the space between 62 - 64 Havering Road that should allow a tree to be re-planted on this section of the road without causing any frustration.

Good news all round I would say....please share your thoughts?

Hell Fire!

I urge local residents to be vigilant as arson attacks are increasing in our ward. 2 bin areas on the Grove farm Estate (Bengeo Road), 1 bin area within the Quarles Park Road estate, 2 bin areas within Capstan Close and Millhaven Close, two sheds in the Chadwell Heath allotments on Chadwell Heath Lane have been targeted - it should be noted theses are the only ones I have heard of and does not constitute the entirety of the concern.

To me it seems with such frequency and the specific locality of the attacks - that they could all possibly be the result of one individual or group. The police have been made aware of all theses attacks and at a public meeting a resident purported that they have seen a local school gang present at one of the arson attacks. I cannot of course ascertain the veracity of such a statement and ask residents to keep an open-mind.

If any residents do see any suspicious behaviour do keep a note and covey details to your local Safer Neighbourhood Team for Chadwell:

Tel: 020 8721 2027 or Email: chadwell.snt@met.police.uk.

If you see an actual incident call 999 and answer any questions posed by the professional receivers.

Societal degeneration!

It was with regret that we informed local residents of the brutalised tree in Crucible Park. Ilsa Martin (our new activist) and I discovered the freshly broken tree at our audit session of the park, prior to the recent community meeting we arranged at Chadwell Heath Foundation School. It seems highly likely that a School Child destroyed the tree as we found the broken tree around 14;30 and it had clearly been broken only a few hours before as the snapped section was rather fresh.

Today I received a response from a senior Arboriculturalist within the Borough Tree Section indicating that the tree has been irreparably damaged and will be removed form the park:

"Unfortunately, the tree in Crucible Park has sustained too much damage and has been removed from the site, the remaining stump will be removed shortly".

It is a shame this action has had to be taken, as three trees have been planted at that same location and suffered the same vandalism. It looks likely that no new tree will planted in the park - yet we all know the environmental and aesthetic benefits trees provide to our parks. Why do the youths involved with this attack feel thay have benefitted - its a mystery to me?

We would ask that if anyone has any information on the culprits of this devastation - that they forward it to us, so that we can inform the appropriate bodies. We have raised the issue at our Community meeting held last Thursday at which the Headmaster of Chadwell Heath Foundation School.

Chadwell Dragon?

At the last Area 5 Committee Meeting Cllr Staight elected by local residents as he lives locally and hence is presumed to be locally astute - made a real boo boo!

When I asked for an illegal extension to the commercial building, late night parties and illegal working hours to be investigated by our Planning Team. He talked of illegal resident's living in the workshop behind - whilst also stating that no planning restrictions existed on working hours?

These were fallacious comments that I obviously corrected and to bring residents up to date I can confirm that the ASBO Team undertook a 1 week investigation of the activity at the site. This however, uncovered no incidents as the week before (following my report), our astute Sgt Mark Lowrie had spoken to one of the leaseholders of the 3 plots at the business location. He advised of them of the community upset and the reported binge drinking after working hours. The leaseholder has warned his staff and was aware of the incidents (he alleged he did not know about community friction). Since then the activity seems to have stopped as I have spoken to the resident who initially advised me of the concern. I have also been advised that the owner intends to convert the commercial premises to residential premises - however, no application has yet been delivered. I can confirm however, that no-one is living there at the moment and that the property is no where near suitable enough for such purposes.

Sometimes I wonder how some councillors are elected? Moreover how they come up with the fantastical stories I regularly hear? What next...the Dragon of Chadwell? Maybe the Bin areas in Quarles Park Road/Millhaven Close, Grove 1 Estate and Richmond Place were burnt down by these mythical beasts- I might ask some of our incumbent councillors....? There again, I'd better not - it might feature in their next "Focus"!

Road Rebuilding Result!

Residents of Gresham Drive and Reynolds avenue are no doubt pleased that they have now finally be informed by the council, of the scheduled full road reinstatement works - to be carried out in their respective areas. This is the culmination of a two year battle in which I have petitioned the Highways Team, reported regularly the awful state of these roads and highlighted rapidly reoccurring Potholes and having them filled for you.

I know I have been promising the works for a year now and the initial report stated it would be completed in January this year. The highways team have been inundated with works and I have cascaded reports on the extended timescales regularly. Anyway I have now been told works will be completed within 6 weeks and that you have received confirmation of the programme in writing.

An added benefit of the programme is the fact that the council have agreed to provide a 25% discount of the cost of carriageway crossings (driveways) if you pay the fees prior to renovation works. This is due to the fact that it will be easily acclimatised into the renovation works. If you have been thinking of installing one -there has never been a better time to do so.

I hope you are pleased with this outcome and welcome feedback....?

Moreover, I cannot remember in the history of my time working for Chadwell (almost 4 years) such a programme of work being undertaken in our ward? Please do correct me if I am wrong...? This is a precedent I will be working diligently to continue as I believe all roads in Chadwell need an overhaul in particular next on my list is Glendale Avenue!

Tree Fella(er) -

I have potentially good news for residents of Roxy Avenue, Flora Gardens and Sherman Gardens. I spoke about the potential for a 50% grant for the pollarding of the 50ft Poplar trees at the rear of gardens at Sherman Gardens and although they have not committed to anything, the council has stated that if there is residential support for the scheme, they would investigate a possible grant.

These trees have caused subsidence to local properties and the stick secretions from the trees has caused expensive damage. I am not against trees of any kind but feel that these trees could do with a little cutting back to remove local concern. You are all aware I have championed tree planting on many residential roads!

I would appreciate if people would communicate their desires with respect to this proposal. I would also like to suggest that as the cost of a tree pollarding exercise is around £800 (potentially £400 if grant is awarded) - that other adjoining properties to the rear and side of the property boundaries, within which the trees exist contribute to the programme. As the trees where inherited and a resolution would provide succour to all of you. If you are willing to contribute do let me know

Safe A12 Crossing at Whalebone Lane

I received a letter from TFL in response to my recent request for a decision on a review of the potential for a Safe Ground level crossing across the A12 near East Road (post-our recent protest march). TFL have expressed again that safety and financial predictions prevent the installation of the crossing at East Road and that they have already started the machinations for the funding and planning of a crossing at Whalebone Lane where it is more cost and safety efficient to do so. They have provided a prescriptive reasoning for this decision which is attached.

I have to bow to their expert knowledge and will now stop the campaign, which has had moderate success as it was in the cross party meeting which I arranged, that TFL agreed the potential for a crossing at Whalebone Lane. This will mean a longer walk for residents of Chadwell and Shepherds Close, but at least now we have a viable alternative at Whalebone Lane.
I have done all I can and apologise to all those that are not satisfied with this result. However, I cannot see any other way forward considering the exhibited facts.

School Alarm bell ringing!

Last night over 60 residents from around Chadwell Heath Foundation School attended the Public meeting arranged to discuss Local Crime, Grime and other local issues. It was attended by the Seven Kings and Chadwell Police, the School Headmaster and the Redbridge ASBO Team - who were there to respond to local queries and concerns.. A lot of issues were raised at the meeting and I will detail these on this post later today.

The Headmaster Mr Wilkinson has also agreed to respond to a list of queries that I will email to him by the end of the week. So do please send them in for me to forward to him for his perusal and investigation.

Congratulations to the newly formed Capstan/Crucible/Millhaven Neighbourhood Watch (CCMNHW) - who were moulded from residents form the estate attending the meeting. I will be helping to initiate a Seven Kings NHW for the roads to the other side of the school and Quarles Park Road - however, I need someone to come forward as a potential chairman? Please make contact.

Road Rage!

You will notice that Isla is pictured next to the horrendous potholes on Havering Gardens, we have reported a serious of holes on this road, Birchdale Gardens and Overton Drive. If anyone is aware of any other potholes do inform us so that we can ask the Highways Team to complete remedial works for you.

Together we will make Chadwell Heath a better place!

Spiky Primrose

On Saturday 9th may around midnight a 25 year old man was brutally beaten by a gang on Primrose Avenue before escaping into his BMW. The gang then stopped him at the Percy Road/Goodmayes junction and was liberally beaten again. The man was taken to Queens hospital and is still recovering. The gang wore masks and carried cricket bats, metal poles and batons to carry out the blood curdling violence.

if you witnessed anything please contact Sgt Simon Giles on 020 8345 2714

Ps. it's the best picture I could find, heh, heh.

I Spy With My Little Eye!

Congratulations to Chadwell Heath Foundation School who have won a 70mm Telescope to Celebrate International Year of Astronomy. They will also be assigned an Amateur Astronomer and it was all due to a profound letter by a Physics Teacher Mr Pather.

Chadwell residents should be proud of this local achievement - proof that are children are in capable hands!
Ps. I cant wait to hear weggis's comment when he views this picture!

Not in my back yard - Literally

Although the image is not clear it shows the waste and debris accumulated along a residents side wall by the commercial company that is operating at the back and side of properties on Cedar Park Gardens and Birchdale Gardens. Some of the regular dumping at this location is arguably trade material but the area is always in a mess and concerns about the attraction of pests have been raised. Moreover as you can see the items and their position are rather inaesthetic.

I have registered this complaint with the Planning department and will keep you informed of progress.

Crammed Parking - The Birchdale Fiasco!

At the Area 5 Committee meeting on Monday 11th May Cllr Scott asked for the removal of the potential permit parking bay scheme for Birchdale Gardens from the Area 5 Action Sheet. This was duly removed - destroying 1 years work and a lengthy petition excercise by myself.

I have spoken with a senior Highways officer and have asked for the item to be returned to the Action Sheet, as my submitted petition shows almost unanimous favour for the introduction of Resident Parking Bays and two Pay and Display Bays on Birchdale Gardens. This was to be on the basis, that no Yellow line would be affixed to the road and was misrepresented on the Action Sheet. In fact the consultation exercise referred to by the Liberal Councillor, that indicated minimal favour for a scheme - was based on a traditional Parking Bay scheme with introduction of yellow lines and was undertaken two years prior to my unanimous or almost unanimous petition? My proposed scheme would allow residents to continue using their driveway fronts as an additional space for visitors, which could be policed via mobile ticket inspectors under an existing Redbridge scheme that was introduced after a year long campaign by myself.

The highways team have agreed to review my concerns and will inform me of their decision.

Barley Lane Collision

On Wednesday 6th May a woman was involved in a Car Crash after a car being chased by the Police crashed into her vvehicle. She had to be cut out of her vehicle and was taken to Queens Hospital. The youth driving the car fled from the Police. More details can be viewd by following this link.

Was this are made more dangerous due to the recent increase in parking created by the King George Staff Car Parking pay scheme?

Please share your thoughts.......?

South Road Success!

It has been a long battle (over a year) but I have secured a second patching of South Road since my work in Chadwell began. I am aware that one occurred before my arrival via your Liberal Councillors after in excess of a 10 year wait. My record is one that I believe most residents of the road could not envisage before my arrival. Moreover, a study is on-going that will see a prioritisation of un-adopted roads in the Borough. That could possibly see the eventual assimilation of the Road into the Councils adopted road maintenance program.

No Ball Games signage verdict delayed again!

Gary Staight our elected Councillor for Chadwell once again deferred the installation of a No-ball games sign for Shepherds Close and the removal of the existing sign at the green on Essex Road - at tonights Area 5 Committe Meeting. He is awaiting a decision on the campaign led by Isla, Juliet and I that will see the potential for a local by-law against Antisocial sports. This is a real shame as I believe if the by-law is to be introduced it will occur after a period of longevity and this small scheme could have introduced some solace to local residents of both these areas. Quite why he did not support the removal of the "No Ball Games" sign from Essex Road I do not know - even though there was majority favour for both these schemes?

Think Again

Crows feed on litter!

It is well documented that Crows feed on litter, so it was with no great surprise that I read a recent email from a concerned resident of Christie Gardens faced with a litter problem occurring within the park and on his road.

"I'm writing to you with regards to the meeting on Thursday. Unfortunately I cannot attend .....but i would like to put my views across. I live in Christie Gardens so am very aware of parking issues. Also of the constant litter in my street and outside me house. I have a ** year old and a ** year old who attend this school so I'm not biased to the other pupils. .... I walk my dog in this park every day and the litter problem is terrible. The bin nearest the park entrance by the school is far too small for the litter that is actually placed in there, Also when it is full the crows sit on the bin and empty out the litter!! Strange but true, so the litter ends up on the floor. If the bin was bigger maybe it wouldn't get full to the brim...... "

I have cascaded these points to the General Cleansing Team.

Quarles Park Road Arson Attack!

Isla is keen to get active and noticed the recent stuffing full of your vandalised bin area with black sacks of Rubbish. She ensured that our General Cleansing Team gave it a good clean and is hoping to work with the Management Agents to rapidly reinstate the bin area to its former position. To facilitate this work she will require someone to provide details of the Management Agents. If you are a local resident please contact us so that we can proceed. If you have any details of the culprits of the Arson Attack please call your Chadwell Safer Neighbourhood Police Team on 020 8721 2625 - they will protect your annoymity (keep confidential any identification details)

We hope you are pleased with the return of communal bins?

Roofs Apocalypse!

This was the sight that met me when inspecting Pavement Mews following a recent complaint from a local resident. I have reported the issue to the Streetscene Department and the Borough Safety team. Once I was almost hit by a chair that fell of the extended roof of a commercial property that like this one became a dumping ground. I am also concerned that this will entice and breed a variety of pests.

Crucible Park crises

Introducing your new Chadwell Ward Green Activist. Many of you will know Isla Martin of Shepherds Close who is a Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for her area and also an executive member of the Chadwell Heath Action Group. The picture was taken whilst we were undertaking an audit of Crucible Park in preparation for the NHW meeting to be held at Chadwell Foundation School on Thursday 14th May 2009 at 18:30. (it transpires that Ilsa is a former pupil of the school and is looking forward to meeting the current long serving Headmaster Mr Wilkinson - who was around when she was a student. Unfortunately during our survey we noticed this vandalised tree and have reported the incident to the Tree Section.

We also noticed the litter in the park and the graffiti on the Seating area which is visible in the second photo. This information has been cascaded to the Streetscene team had we are hopeful that they will send a representative to our inaugural NHW meeting.

The Police (from Seven Kings and Chadwell) and ASBO Team have already confirmed their attendance.

Green litter?....no need!

These arisings are the residual remains after a resident of Shepherds Close completed a recent bush cutting excercise. Garden waste can now be collected from homes however there is a procedure to follow which has been described in a previous post on this blog.

The culprit also left the evidence very close to their home with the newly cut bushes clearly visible. I have asked the General Cleansing Team to remove the waste, however they will also ensure that the resident involved will be warned of the consequences of a repeat occurence.

If we all abide with the correct procedures it will make the process easier for the council and less frustrating to other neighbours. Please do consider the consequences to others for any action you take.

Crash Horror!

Here are pictures from the aftermath of a Car Crash just viewed by myslef at the Grove Road/High Road Junction. This is very close to the area where the Grove Farm is to be built. I took this picture whilst on a gridlocked lane where Police were struggling to make cars move at all. There were two ambulances involved and I hope that the passengers in the two vehicles are ok. This item will remian on my blog as evidence of the diabolical nature of the road and the large amounts of traffic that can cause much danger in their present state.

Hope Not Hate

Hi in the picture you will see me with some of the other volunteers providing information to Redbridge residents about the Fascist nature of the BNP and the fact that they believe Women to be second class citizens. This was part of the "Hope not Hate" Campaign held today Sunday 10th May 2009 - that was also supported by the Redbridge Race Equality Council. Many people learnt the truth about the BNP For the first time and it was a real eye opener for them.

Please do tell me...I am listening.

I have a solution that might be of benefit to Chadwell Allotment Holders if they are willing to work with me? At the moment there have been no crimes reported to the police, regarding the recent spate of arson attacks and other crime associated with the vulnerable land. If some of the allotment holders are willing to report the crime via Ilford Police Station and are able to provide me with a CAD reference number I can then instruct Mick Perring to undertake a Crime report. Following this I and can approach the “Community Safety Team” for funding towards sturdier un-breachable fencing for the site. At this juncture Mick Perring cannot proceed as there is no reported crime? Please report any crime you see to the Police for them to effectively prioritise crime out of our area!

Please call 020 8478 1123 for Ilford Police Station or visit them in person.

If you would like to call your local Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, there details are:

You Rotter!

I have received news regarding the tree at the rear of Brian Road mentioned in a previous story. It transpires that the tree was not protected and was aged and rather unhealthy. I will continue to monitor planning applications in the region and will keep residents informed of any new proposals for flats at the location.

Abandoned Vehicle

A long white van -Mercedes Sprinter - has apparently been abandoned within the private land in the triangle to the rear of properties on Third Road, and the Chadwell Heath Lane end of Somerville Road and Brian Road. The registration plate is R707 PNK. A resident has purported that the vehicle has been there for in excess of 6 months and has not been moved. I have asked for a Road Tax search to be conducted by the General Cleansing Team and for a 14 day removal notice to be placed on the vehicle. If this vehicle belongs to you and you wish to retain it -please do advise me.

Millhaven/Capstan/Crucible NHW

Don't forget the Millhaven/Crucible/Capstan Closes' Neighbourhood Watch is to be held at 18:30 at Chadwell Heath Foundation School on Thursday 14th May 2009. The headmaster will be attending this also and will answer any school related issues. we shall also have a Police and ASBO Presence and potentially attendance from General Cleansing.

I have also invited residents from Seven Kings Ward to the meeting as they are affected with similar issues across the other side of the park.

Whilst in your are today I noticed:
  • 17 Millhaven Close has a smashed and badly damaged door.
  • 67- 77 Millhaven Close has a missing water meter cover that creates a significant trip hazard to residents.
  • Opposite 25 Millhaven Close there is some overgrown bushes that have not been cut back following the recent cutting excercise.

Grove 1 - A Promising Future!

At the Grove 1 Estate meeting today we had only a few attendants, however some very positive outcomes.

  • The Police have agreed to work towards obtaining an Antisocial Behaviour contract (ABC) on the residents living at two properties on Bengeo Gardens from where much of the local disturbances are arising.

The General Cleansing Team have agreed to:

  • write to L&Q and Winchester Properties asking them to place lids on the bins under the "Control of Pests" act.
  • investigate possible residual litter being left by their workmen during litter collection and to instruct them to ensure this is cleared up in future.
  • inspect the state of the bin shelters at the estate and ask L&Q and Winchester Properties to provide additional bins if necessary.

This is a very good result for the Grove 1 Estate residents!
