Chadwell Allotments - Safety first!

Wilson pencils a motion for the RNWA to pay £1000 towards security gates at Chadwell allotments

Harmegh Rattan (MBE), Karen Campbell (secretary), Paul Sampson (executive member), Isla Martin (Treasurer) and Wilson agree to spend the £1000.

After much deliberation the new look RNWA team decided to allocate £1000 towards securing Chadwell Allotments. Residents in the area have been subjected to a deluge of arson attacks and an elderly couple living near the allotments have been living in terror of the consequences of another incident. The elderly couple previously had their fence burnt down during one attack and their front garden, has become an access point for drug fuelled revellers, seeking entry to their adopted play area. The RNWA chaired by Wilson Chowdhry, believe securing the vulnerable entry point near Park Villas will prevent and reduce similar crime.

Despite frequent requests for funding from our incumbent Liberal and Labour Party Councillors, using the Area 5 Money that should be used for projects like this. Funding was denied on the basis that although the Allotments owned by the council were owned by the Council - our Councillor's believe that the responsibility for fencing lies with local residents. Community safety, security and quality of life are key aims of the RNWA, who overlooked personal responsibilities.
Wilson said

"I am delighted that this decision was made, as I believe new secure fencing will bring much succour to our community and lower the pervading perception of increased crime."

One of the elderly residents has agreed to pay the remainder of costs despite the unwillingness of our local councillors.
