Grove Road/Chadwell Heath Lane safety measures!

We have been diligently coercing the council to take undertake the safety works to the Chadwell Heath Lane/ Grove Road Junction. You will remember that during Wilson's communications with a senior engineering officer, it was uncovered that Section 106 money was to be allocated to improve the area (click here). It was agreed that a works programme was to be initiated in April. we have continually badgered the Engineering team regarding these works and today they have advised us that under Section 278 of Planning Regulations, the Primary Developer (Wimpey Homes) is required to make sight-lines better at this location. A Contractor has now been assigned by Wimpey who will initiate works in February/March. The senior engineering officer stated:

"As discussed in our telephone conversation of this afternoon, the Developer of the site has been out to tender for a contractor to carryout the kerbline and entrance adjustments, they are hoping to appoint the contractor with a view to carrying out the works in February/March this year.

Once the alterations to the junction have been carried out we will review the junction to see if the sightline improvements have made a difference to the accidents statistics, we will then decide whether or not further safety works are required.
I hope this is of help. "

Once this work is completed, we will continue the push for reviews of safety to ensure that any residual danger, is designed out of this accident prone area. We still have allocated Section 106 money that could be used in lieu of any remaining problem.
