Road Rage!

Three's a crowd!
Another hole in the ground!

I wonder if they connect to Australia!

Arrrgh!

Dodgy streets!

At last 1.5 inches - must be a trip hazard!

I actually tripped on this smaller inch deep hole!

The shoddy road surface above was found on Jarrow Road - the same road that Councillor Staight lives on. I bet I will be the first to report it! The pot holes can be found between 21 - 29 Jarrow road.

The poor pavement condition can be found on Canon Avenue - they are repeated all over!
I have reported all these defects to the reactive maintenance department and will inform you of any response received.

  1. Snow and Ice are the worst conditions for causing road damage as small cracks can rapidly become potholes. Potholes are formed by water penetrating the road surface through cracks caused by traffic. When temperatures plunge, the water freezes, expands and causes the surface to rupture. When the ice melts, it leaves a void below the surface, which caves in under the stress of vehicles and eventually forms a pothole! Hardly suprising then with the recent bout of bad weather we've had!!! the same problem is ocurring on around 80% of the roads in the borough!!

  2. I hear your angst and agree I have written a post on how potholes are formed previously and on the phenomenon of "crazing" (road surface slippage). I am glad you have stressed that over 80% of roads on the borough have pot holes - although I disagree with your figure it is good that someone else recognises the need to report this environmental/economical ( associated damage to vehicles, tyre wear and increased fules consumption) and safety hazard. They. I just wishe the local councillors in their wards would actually undertake the frequent surveys that we Greens do. Chadwell has beneffitted significantly, from our reports and at a time of budget cuts this could be crucial. Compare our roads to the other wards we ensure the Reactive Maintenance are harried into rapid response repairs, to ensure better quality of life for locals.
