Problem Alleyway!

Awful mess!

The Aston Mews alleyway located at the High Road end of Reynolds Avenue is filled with litter.  Bizarrely in the image above you can see much of the mess is directly below the Redbridge Council waste deposit bin.  I am aware that Waste collectors are required to remove waste accidentally dropped as a result of their collection from the bin and will assume that the litter is either an oversight, or not a consequence of litter collection.  The alleyway also has a mattress and other bulky waste (image faulty) stuffed into it by a local flytipper.  I will seek a clearance operation from the General Cleansing Team.

The alleyway is said to be blighted by significant antisocial behaviour and drug dealing.  Local residents have asked for more surveillance in the area and I have cascaded this information to both the Local police and ASBO Team.

The "Redbridge Council waste deposit bin" appears to be located in front of a private garage door - so are they guilty of "obstruction"? Or is that not its normal location?

Are you standing in the by election?

  2. Hi Morris/Jesse,

I think you are missing the point. The bin will have been purchased from Redbridge Council and is indeed in the ownership of a commercial entity no doubt, However, our local waste collection team that would be lifting the waste from these bins are required to clean up any litter that may have spilled during collection. I cannot confirm whether the waste on the street is from such spillage, however, I can state that the Redbridge logo on the bin suggests that lifting the waste from the bin is Redbrdige Council's responsibility and that the commercial enterprise will be paying a fee for a full service. More haste, less speed!

  3. Just read your recent newsletter and am delighted something is being done about the problem of people hanging around at the top of Reynolds Avenue. As a resident of Reynolds I find it very unnerving walking past these people to go home or to the shops. There are also often minor scuffles between the men. As to the problem of litter and waste being dumped on the streets, i despair and am always emailing the council about the state of the streets and fly-tipping. I get off at the station each night and see the mess outside and think- this is the first impression people get when they arrive at chadwell heath, and its not a very good one.

  6. Actually the bulky waste has gone. As the General Cleansing team have cleared up the litter on several occasions thay feel it is time the owners took responsibility as it is not primarily their duty to clear up the mess. Here is the text from an email I have received:

"...this a private area and we are trying to work with residents to take some ownership f the areas where they live, we will collect the bed when they bring all the rubbish to one collection point."

Since then the beds have been removed but the litter has not.
