Your local Green party candidate Wilson Chowdhry has prioritised local safety. In particular, many of you will remember at the last elections in 2006, Wilson was responsible for introducing a zebra crossing on Grove road nearby the Keith Axon Centre (despite contradictory features in the Chadwell Focus), safeguarding young children attending the two local schools. This was the result of a 6 month petition and an Area 5 Committee funding application.
This year Wilson joined forces with crime reduction activist Isla Martin to campaign for resident safety around the A12. Long term problems associated with drug trafficking and usage resulted in attacks, muggings and bullying of residents - young and old whilst using the East Road, Whalebone Lane and Somerville Road subway.
Wilson and Isla organised a private meeting with ASBO team and Police Team officers from, Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham, the Head Teachers of Warren School and Oaks Park School, several NHW Coordinators and 3 Senior Managers from TFL. This has resulted in a proposal to implement a safe ground level, traffic light-operated crossing at the Whalebone Lane junction.
