Please use Green Garden waste bags...

What is this! After much work by our Streetscene Team who have invested in durable , reusable green garden waste bags. We still have local residents using the incorrect type of disposal bag. Please do use the Green bags provided as they carry a large amount of waste and the garden waste team cannot collect waste like this. Our waste collection vehicles will only pick up green waste and cannot dispose of such bags. Avoid the embarrassement and inconvenience of having Green waste uncollected by using the correct equipment please.

  1. The Big Green Bags are an excellent idea but the intention is not to dispose of them with the green waste, as Wilson implies!

"To make sure your bag gets back to you safely, mark your house number on it and provide a stone nearby for your empty back to be replaced under.

    Q. What happens if I have too much garden waste for the big green bag?

    A. You may use bin liners, however please keep them untied and outside your property in the same way ...

I'm sure that bags in the picture will be very suitable as they look strong enough to stop hedge cuttings, etc., poking through the sides ...

... Incidentally, I saw 3 BGBs packed full of green waste outside some houses near me a day or two afted they were delivered - over a month before collections are due to start!

  2. The amount of waste in the 3 bags in the image could actually have fitted into one Council provided Green Waste bag. Moreover soon the council will avoid collecting inapproriately bagged Green Waste. I hope residents will use the Green bags provided, alternatives are going to be prone to potential delay in collection. Contractors will accept open black sacks at the moment but are being advised not to collect other forms of waste depositing bags.

  3. Oh dear! For the past year or so, I've been using some collapsible green waste bins I bought in a Dutch supermarket. They have proved very useful and are much, much stronger than black bin liners!

Black bin liners usually suffer fatal rips and punctures when used for many forms of green waste and are no longer fit for re-use for anything. What a stupid waste of resources!

Ah well, I'll punch a few drainage holes in the bottom of my green bins and grow potatoes, or something, in them.

Until such time as the council provides me with a supply of black sacks for my surplus green waste, I fear it will end up in the dustbin ...

... Could Wilson please provide an official quote for the very non-green policy he has outlined, as I would like to throw it in the face of certain parties who are imminently likely to knock on my front door to canvass my vote ...?

  4. Hey I don't make the rules....I am on your side.

The strange thing is for clarification I asked another General Cleansing officer this morning and they had a view similar to yours. Yet the officers I have been speaking to previously had a completely different perception. I will look deeper into this issue and see which is correct...?
